Curriculum Mapping

The meaning, value and purpose of a curriculum map vary from one teacher to another.  Curriculum mapping may be defined as the process of putting all the instructional materials into a calendar of activities. In this way, a teacher will know what to cover and when a lesson should have already been covered. Curriculum mapping may be considered as a master schedule. It is a proactive way of teaching specifically since the teachers are accountable in covering all the lessons in the syllabus in a well-timed manner. 

Ensuring Accountability through Curriculum Mapping

Teachers may be more able to manage the lessons when they engage in doing a curriculum map. Through curriculum mapping, the teachers are able to separate lessons. By tailoring the curriculum map to the needs of the students in a specific timeline, you are able to offer the most current information to them as part of the lesson plan. When you plan ahead, you can include the most appropriate materials for instruction.

The curriculum maps allow for flexibility and adjustments. The teachers may ensure that all important concepts are covered before standardized testing comes. Virtually all teachers are pressured on how their students will perform on this examination. There are benchmarks that must be mastered by the students. It is only through this that the testing scores of the children may be improved. This is the reason why teachers are devoting a lot of time in mapping the curriculum.  Nevertheless, even if you are using the most effective curriculum map will never ensure that students will equally learn the contents in an effective manner.
