Student Assessments

It is important for any teacher to be competent at keeping accurate records of the students. This is one of the basic responsibility among teachers. When reporting the student assessments, teachers relate the score to the students learning.

Other than the formative assessments, you may also want be in the know of properly keeping anecdotal files of the students. Such a file must contain information about the study habits of the students as well as behavioral problems. Students may keep a student assessments portfolio so that they may demonstrate the learning and progress to their parents. This allows the students to track their own progress.

To dig deeper, student assessments provide documentation of what the students have already learned about the subject matter. The assessment portfolio may help manifest the learning of the students in lieu with the syllabus objectives.

Student assessments must be targeted based upon the lesson. This can be achieved through letting the students know the standards that their academic performance will be measured against. Instruction would be more effective if the students are given the opportunities to know the processes involved in assessing their academic performance. They may be able to acquire a positive regard of themselves individuals and as learners. Apart from this, the students have an active role in their assessments, sharing the responsibility with their teachers. Students must be accountable to their own actions more so because they are the ones who are assuming the responsibility for own learning.

The teachers must start with a small scale assessment portfolio before moving to larger ones. In terms of student assessments, it is important that the students are informed  to their progress. They will know that they thriving academically.
